Interaction between Monovalent and Multivalent Metals and Fulvic Acids A Streaming Current Detection Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
The complexation reaction between metal cations o f different valence states (Al, Bi(III), Cr(III), Fe(III); Ca, Co(II), Cu(II), Mn(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Zn; Na) and fulvic acids is investi gated by the streaming current detection technique. It can be shown that the metal complexa tion capacity does not only depend on the nature o f the cation but also on the origin o f fulvic acids, which were isolated from anaerobic and aerobic landfill leachates.

Charge inversion at high ionic strength studied by streaming currents.
We report charge inversion, the sign reversal of the effective surface charge in the presence of multivalent counterions, for the biologically relevant regimes of divalent ions and mixtures of monovalent and multivalent ions. Using streaming currents, the pressure-driven transport of countercharges in the diffuse layer, we find that charge inversion occurs in rectangular silica nanochannels at ...
متن کاملCompetition between condensation of monovalent and multivalent ions in DNA aggregation
We discuss the distribution of ions around highly charged PEs when there is competition between monovalent and multivalent ions, pointing out that in this case the number of condensed ions is sensitive to short-range interactions, salt and model-dependent approximations. This sensitivity is discussed in the context of recent experiments on DNA aggregation, induced by multivalent counterions suc...
متن کاملReactions of Refuse Compost-Derived Humic Substances with Lead, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc
The humic substances including humic acid (HA) and fulvic acids (FAs) extracted from a refuse compost were investigated the average conditional concentration quotients of the complexes formed by the reaction of heavy metals with the humic substances. The characteristics of these humic substances were previously investigated by a related study. The concentrations of the free ions of Pb, Cu, Cd, ...
متن کاملLong-ranged and soft interactions between charged colloidal particles induced by multivalent coions.
Forces between charged particles in aqueous solutions containing multivalent coions and monovalent counterions are studied by the colloidal probe technique. Here, the multivalent ions have the same charge as the particles, which must be contrasted to the frequently studied case where multivalent ions have the opposite sign as the substrate. In the present case, the forces remain repulsive and a...
متن کاملCoexistence of multivalent and monovalent TCRs explains high sensitivity and wide range of response
A long-standing paradox in the study of T cell antigen recognition is that of the high specificity-low affinity T cell receptor (TCR)-major histocompatibility complex peptide (MHCp) interaction. The existence of multivalent TCRs could resolve this paradox because they can simultaneously improve the avidity observed for monovalent interactions and allow for cooperative effects. We have studied t...
